Johannesburg, Dec 7: Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced a 21-strong, proteas Test squad for series against India , scheduled to start from December 26.
Notably, the three match test series will form part of the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. The first Test will now take place at SuperSport Park in Centurion from December 26 , followed by the second Test at the Wanderers (January 3-7) and the third at Newlands (January 11-15).
Interestingly, the National Selection Panel has gone with the same core group that successfully toured the West Indies in June and also included three more players.
Rabada, Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje will be seen in the series and there will be a reintroduction of seamer, Duanne Olivier, who has returned to the South African domestic set-up following a prolonged stint in the United Kingdom.
“We as the selectors are excited for the return of Test cricket. This format is very important to CSA and keeping it relevant and alive is one of the organisation’s priorities,” said Victor Mpitsang, CSA Convenor of selectors.
“We are really looking forward to the return of Dean Elgar and his men, it’s been a long few months since the last time we saw them dominate in the West Indies. We are confident in the team that we have selected,” he added.
