Bengaluru, March 7: Kuldeep Yadav, an Indian left-arm wrist-spinner, has been released from the team, while Axar Patel, an Indian left-arm spinner, has been added to the Test squad ahead of the second Test match of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, which begins on March 12 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Axar has regained full match fitness and has already joined the squad in Mohali, where India won the game in overwhelming fashion and the match was completed on Day 3 of the match.
Despite the fact that Kuldeep was not selected as Axar’s backup in the squad, the Indian management believes that three left-arm spinners in the Test team is unnecessary.
Meanwhile, Axar Patel, who has been out of action since the Mumbai Test against New Zealand, will make his long-awaited return to the team.
India’s Test squad for 2nd match against Sri Lanka:
Rohit Sharma (captain), Priyank Panchal, Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, R. Ashwin (subject to fitness clearance), Axar Patel, Saurabh Kumar, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Mohd. Shami, Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain).
