New Delhi: The Indian cricket team’s Asia Cup 2025 squad was revealed with a mix of senior players and youngsters, but the absence of some big names raised eyebrows.

Key Players Left Out

Shreyas Iyer, despite scoring 604 runs in IPL 2025 at an average of 50.33, was excluded. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had 559 runs in IPL 2025 and was considered a strong contender for the opener’s slot, also missed out. Washington Sundar, an all-rounder who impressed in the Test series against England, was surprisingly not picked. Fast bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, both in fine form, were also absent from the main squad.

India’s Asia Cup Squad and Tournament Details

The squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav with Shubman Gill as vice-captain. Other members include Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, and Rinku Singh. Standby players are Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Asia Cup, scheduled from September 9 to 28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, features eight teams. India’s matches include UAE (Sept 10), Pakistan (Sept 14), and Oman (Sept 19). The final will be held on September 28 in Dubai.
