New Delhi, Feb 1: India has recorded 1,67,059 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, down 20% from the previous day’s high of 2.09 lakh. During the same time period, a total of 1,192 new fatalities were reported.
With the new Covid cases reported today, India’s total infection tally now stands at 4,14,69,499, making it the world’s second worst-affected country after the United States.
Today’s high daily death toll, which brings the country’s total death toll to 4.96 lakh, includes a backlog of 638 deaths in Kerala.
The daily positivity rate, or the percentage of coronavirus tests that come back positive — a vital indicator of the pandemic’s condition — has declined to 11.6 percent from 15.7 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was 15.25 percent.
India’s active caseload currently stands at 17.43 lakh cases, accounting for 4.2 percent of the country’s total infections. The Covid-19 recovery rate in the United States is at 94.6 percent.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccine coverage in India has surpassed 166.68 crore doses, with over 75% of the adult population fully vaccinated.
