New Delhi, Dec 26: India reported 6,987 new coronavirus infections and 162 deaths in last 24 hours, informed the Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Sunday.
The total number of active cases is now 76,766, which constitute 0.22% of the Country’s total positive cases, lowest since March 2020 and the death toll is 4,79,682.
According to the ministry, 7,091 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate stands at 98.40%, which is highest since March 2020.
The number of cases of the rapidly spreading Omicron variant in India has risen to 422, with Maharashtra reporting the highest number of infections.
Meanwhile, India on Saturday announced booster shots for health and frontline workers and those above 60 from January 10. In a late night address, Prime Minister Modi also announced vaccinations for children between 15 and 18 years from January 3.
Notably, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 141.37 Crore, with the administration of 32,90,766 vaccine dose in the last 24 hours
