Jharkhand Governor inaugurates Birsa Munda Music and Dance Festival

Ranchi, Dec 25, 2021: To promote the significance of art and culture among Jharkhand denizens, a two-day Birsa Munda Music and Dance Festival organized by Amity University, Jharkhand in association with Pandit Chandra Kumar Mallick Memorial Charitable Trust was inaugurated by Governor Ramesh Bais at the varsity premises in the state capital on Saturday.

Addressing the audience, he said, “I am glad of Pandit Chandra Kumar Mallick Memorial Charitable Trust for providing a platform to deserving music performers. India has maintained a record of classical singing since ancient times. Apart from entertainment, it helps in keeping a healthy mind and body. It is connected to the environment. Folk singing is usually seen in local programmes. However, it holds a tradition. One needs the patience to learn it.”

He further added, “There’s no religion, caste, or community of singing. The lyrics of any classical song may not be understood but the beat touches everyone.”

He wondered what if the national anthem was into classical singing and mentioned his native state Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh Gharana. “The health sector has accepted that singing has a positive impact in healing from any disease,” quoted the Governor.

Mallick Brothers mesmerized the gathering with their classical singing and sitar while Manjusha Ranjan recited a Hindi poem on this occasion. They applauded Amity University, Jharkhand’s support in hosting the event successfully.

The Governor felicitated Padma Shri Madhu Mansuri Hasmukh, Artists Nilesh Mallick, Pandit Rajkumar Jha, Prof. Mohammed, Manjusha Ranjan, Sachin Kumar, Gargi Malkhani, Shrijit Chatterjee and Ashok Das as well as Academic Attainment Awardees 2021 of Amity University, Jharkhand namely faculty members Jayeeta Chattopadhyay and Malik on this occasion.

Welcoming the Governor, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Kumar Jha, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University, Jharkhand said, “Amity University, Jharkhand gives equal weightage to art and culture apart from education. As many as 325 research works are published by our faculty members besides 93 research publications of students in the past year while funded projects of Rs 80 lakhs had been received. We are honoured to have the benign presence of the Governor in our campus.”

Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Kumar Pandey, Director, Amity University, Jharkhand and Prabhakar Tripathi, Registrar, Amity University, Jharkhand conveyed their blessings on this occasion.

The programme concluded with a Kathak performance by renowned dancer Gargi Malkani and group instrumental performances including flute and tabla by Ashok Das and Shrijit Chatterjee.
