New Delhi, Oct 1: Access to the Pakistan government’s Twitter account has been blocked in India. The Twitter handle indicates that access to the account has been denied in compliance with a legal demand.

However, it is still unknown what caused Indian officials to take action against the official Twitter account of the Pakistani government.

The notification that appears when one attempts to visit the @GovtofPakistan Twitter handle states that the account has been blocked in India as a result of a legal demand.

According to Twitter’s terms of service, this type of action is only taken in response to a legitimate legal requirement, such as a court order.

In July too, the Pakistani government’s Twitter account was disabled, but it was reinstated later. More than ten YouTube channels had previously been blocked by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for propagating false information about Indian national security, foreign policy, and public order.

Twitter reportedly received 326 legal requests to ban content posted by recognized journalist and news organization accounts, 114 of which were from India.

Notably, Twitter in India banned the official accounts of the Pakistani embassies in the UN, Turkey, Iran, and Egypt in June, according to ANI. Eight YouTube channels, including one from Pakistan, were blocked by the government in August for propagating false information about India’s public order, foreign relations, and national security.
