New Delhi: Amidst the serene yet treacherous hills of Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Army has become a beacon of hope for thousands affected by devastating floods. In the wake of relentless rain and rising waters, especially in remote villages of Mandi district like Thunag, Degi, Rushad, and Chapad, soldiers have stepped in as first responders, ensuring vital aid reaches those cut off from the rest of the state.
Relief Operations Amid Challenging Terrain and Communication Gaps
Since July 6, Indian Army relief columns have been working tirelessly in flood-affected areas. Despite challenges like limited mobile connectivity, troops have maintained consistent communication with civil authorities, coordinating closely with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local officials. Beyond delivering supplies, army medics have been treating injuries and illnesses in makeshift medical camps set up beside damaged homes, while distributing ration kits to families in need.
Army Ensures Essential Supplies Reach Remote Areas
The Army has played a crucial role in delivering relief materials to villages cut off by the floods. Aid has already reached Degi on July 7, Rushad on July 8, and Chapad on July 9. All army columns remain in touch via mobile networks, although coverage remains patchy in places like Thunag. To bridge communication gaps, satellite systems such as ISAT phones, RS STARSV, and HX technology have been deployed to maintain seamless connectivity for ongoing operations.
State Leadership to Assess Relief Efforts
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is scheduled to visit Thunag to review relief efforts firsthand. Similarly, the Brigade Commander is also visiting Mandi to assess the operational situation and interact with troops on the ground. A meeting between the Chief Minister and the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi is planned to strengthen coordination and further enhance the response strategy.
The Indian Army has reiterated its commitment to supporting the people of Himachal Pradesh through this natural disaster and continues to work hand-in-hand with civil authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of affected citizens.
