New Delhi, June 14: After Palestine defeated Philippines in a group B encounter in Ulaanbaatar on Tuesday, the Indian men’s football team qualified for the Asian Cup Finals.
As a result of finishing first in their group, the Palestinians qualified directly for the 24-team finals, but the Philippines, although coming second, were eliminated with four points.
Only the winners of the six qualifying groups will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament, where they will be joined by the five best second-placed teams from their respective groups.
India qualified for the final round of group D after finishing second on goal difference to Hong Kong (six points).
This is for the first time India have qualified for the Asian Cup in two successive editions, having made the group league exit in the 2019 edition.
