New Delhi: Indian cargo vessel MT Jalveer has been attacked near the port of Shinas in Oman on Thursday, with images showing the ship on fire in the middle of the sea. The Indian Embassy in Oman has confirmed the attack, and all 20 Indian sailors on board have been reported safe.

Third Attack on Indian Ships in Three Days

This is the third attack on a commercial vessel carrying Indian sailors in the past three days, raising serious concerns about the safety of Indian maritime personnel in the region. The identity of the attackers in the latest incident has not yet been confirmed.

Earlier Attack on Setabello Left Three Indians Missing

On Wednesday, June 10, another vessel named Setabello was attacked near the Oman coast with 28 people on board including 24 Indians. Following that attack, three Indians went missing while 21 were rescued safely. Of the three missing Indians, the bodies of two have since been recovered. India strongly condemned the attack.

India Summons US Charge d’Affaires

India has reportedly summoned US Charge d’Affaires Jason Meeks to the Ministry of External Affairs to lodge an official protest over the attacks. British maritime security group Ambrey, cited by Reuters, suggested the attacks may be linked to the American naval operation aimed at blockading Iranian ports, adding that crew members had previously been warned to move to the bow of the ship rather than the stern in the event of an attack.
