New Delhi, June 23: India won the opening game by a score of 34 runs to take a 1-0 series lead. The Indians’ accurate bowling allowed them successfully defend a low score of 138 runs, leading to the victory. With final statistics of 2/22, Radha Yadav was India’s best bowler.

Jemimah Rodrigues earlier scored an unbeaten 36 off 27 to lead India to a total of 138/6 against Sri Lanka Women in the first T20I on Thursday at Dambulla. The Indian hitters’ overall performance was dismal. Smriti Mandhana and Sabbhineni Meghana were both dismissed by pacer Oshadi Ranasinghe in the fourth over, shocking India early on.

After being put back by the two quick wickets, Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma rebuilt for India. The Indian captain was then dismissed by Chamari Athapaththu for a run-a-ball 31 before being caught LBW for 22. Pooja Vastrakar failed to make 14 off 12 while Richa Ghosh only made 11 out of 15. With her undefeated knock of 17 off 8 pitches, Deepti Sharma gave India a flourish at the very end.
