Nagpur: An IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Kolkata was forced to make an emergency landing after it collided with a bird mid-air, damaging the aircraft’s nose section. Thanks to the pilot’s alertness, the flight carrying 272 passengers landed safely at Nagpur Airport, with no injuries reported.

Panic in Air, Calm Response by Crew

The bird strike caused turbulence, triggering panic among passengers, some of whom raised alarm out of fear. However, the cabin crew urged everyone to remain calm, while the pilot quickly stabilized the aircraft and ensured a safe emergency landing. Passengers expressed immense relief after touching down safely.

Airport Authority’s Statement

Senior Airport Director Abid Ruhi confirmed that IndiGo flight 6E812 reported a suspected bird hit shortly after takeoff. An investigation is underway to determine the exact location and circumstances of the incident. Authorities highlighted the seriousness of bird strike risks, especially during takeoff and landing phases.

Bird Hits a Persistent Aviation Risk

In aviation, bird strikes are considered a major technical hazard that can cause engine damage or loss of control. Industry experts emphasize the need for preventive measures and strict monitoring around airports to minimize such incidents.

Past Incidents

This is not the first such case. On June 2, an IndiGo flight from Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport with 175 passengers also experienced a bird strike at an altitude of 3,000–4,000 feet. On that occasion as well, the pilot managed to land the plane safely, averting a potential disaster.
