A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the passenger for unauthorised tampering with the emergency exit, notwithstanding IndiGo’s claims that there was no compromise on the safe running of the flight.

This comes days after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the country’s aviation watchdog, said that a passenger aboard an IndiGo flight from Chennai to Tiruchirappalli on December 10 of last year opened the emergency door.
However, as the airplane hadn’t taken off yet, there weren’t any negative events.
Later, Jyotiraditya Scindia, minister of civil aviation, verified that the passenger was Tejasvi Surya and apologised for opening the door ‘by mistake.’
Since last year, airlines have come under increased scrutiny, initially as a result of many mid-flight mechanical breakdowns, and more recently as a result of how the staff handled rowdy passengers.
