Dhanbad, May 2: In a shocking incident, a rat allegedly nibbled a new born baby’s knee at Sadar Hospital in Giridih on Monday. The baby has been referred to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad and is currently undergoing treatment.
SNMMCH head of the department of pediatrics, Dr Avinash Kumar, has said that deep wounds were found on the knee of the infant.
“Having seen the wound, it is tough to say whether it is rat nibbles or something else,” he said.
Giridih civil surgeon (CS), Dr SP Mishra, after taking the allegations of family members seriously, has set up a committee to look into the matter.
“After getting the report I will take necessary actions. If the nursing staff of the hospital are found guilty, legal actions will be taken as the matter is serious,” CS said.
As per the allegation of the infant’s mother, the nurse called her at the wee hour (around 3 am). She was informed by the nurse that the infant is suffering from jaundice and should be moved to a better hospital.
When she took the baby on her lap, she found a deep wound on the infant’s knee. She has alleged that a rat had nibbled her child.
Mamta Devi, wife of Rajesh Singh, a resident of Jamua block had delivered a baby on Friday. Since the child was suffering from breathing issues, she admitted her to the MCH ward of Sadar hospital.
