Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals in the first match of IPL-2021 Phase-2 on Saturday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.
There will be immense pressure on the five-time champion Mumbai team to win the match. If they lose, their way to the play-offs will be very difficult. Mumbai are ranked fifth in the points table, with 10 points from 11 matches. If they win all three matches in a row, they will easily reach the play-offs, but after getting a single defeat, it will have to depend on the net run rate and the results of the other teams’ matches.
On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals team is in a much better position. They have16 points from 11 matches. Even if they do not win any match from here, their entry in the playoffs is almost certain. Another win will strengthen the team’s claim of finishing top-2. After the league matches, the team in the top-2 gets two chances to make it to the final.
However, the pitch in Sharjah has been a tough one for batting. Run-making hasn’t been easy by any means. The spinners and slow bowlers are likely to make hay. Chasing should be the way forward for the team winning the toss as defending won’t be an easy task.
