Mumbai, March 20: Anrich Nortje, the Delhi Capitals’ pacer, arrived in Mumbai on Sunday, fuelling hopes that he will play in the IPL 2022.
Nortje revealed the news in an Instagram story photo with his wife Micaela, citing Mumbai as the destination.
The 28-year-old will almost certainly be quarantined at the Delhi Capitals’ camp at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, where the majority of the team has already begun training.
Since last December, Rishabh Pant and his team have been sweating Nortje’s participation. The South African was retained in the auction for INR 6.5 crore, but has been sidelined owing to a hip ailment.
Cricket South Africa (CSA)’s medical officer was recently said to local newspaper that he is not ready for action.
His arrival in Mumbai might be construed as confirmation from the CSA that he is eligible to compete in the event. Everything now hinges on the Delhi Capitals’ medical team determining whether he is fit enough to bowl again.
Notably, in the 2021 season, Anrich Nortje played eight games, picking up 12 wickets at a stunning average of 15.58. Overall, he has 34 wickets at 20.56
