Mumbai, March 28: The Delhi Capitals have been given a major blow as Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh suffered a hip flexor injury, thereby ruling him out of the upcoming One-Day International series against Pakistan.
Marsh was set to join Delhi Capitals on April 6 following the conclusion of the Pakistan white-ball series, but his availability will now be determined by the severity of his injury. Marsh was purchased for a record Rs 6.5 crore in the IPL auction.
Due to availability issues and injuries to other key players, DC only bought seven overseas players in the big auction and only used two of them against Mumbai. Marsh and David Warner were supposed to join the Capitals after April 6th.
Marsh’s scans have been submitted for evaluation, according to Australia’s ODI skipper Aaron Finch, who revealed in Lahore on Monday that he acquired the injury during a high-intensity fielding session on Sunday.
“He injured his hip flexor, we think, at training. We are going to have to wait and see what that looks like, but I don’t think he’ll be available for the series based on how he was feeling yesterday,” Finch told reporters.
Notably, the three-match ODI series against Pakistan begins on Tuesday. After the ODIs, the lone T20I will be played on April 5.
