New Delhi, March 9: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) 14 crore Deepak Chahar is likely to join the team in the middle of the season.
Chahar had to have surgery to cure a quadriceps rupture, according to a report. However, it currently appears that surgery will not be required, and the pacemaker will be available starting in mid-April.
Chahar has already begun his eight-week rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Chahar is expected to join CSK’s camp in the next weeks, since they have already begun their preparations for the upcoming campaign in Surat.
Though there are no plans to rush Chahar into play, CSK will keep a close eye on his progress and hope to have their big buy from the mega auction fit and firing in a few weeks.
Chahar was urged to go under the knife after MRI scans, but the pacemaker declined. The 29-year-old, like other Indian seamers, is aiming for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup team in Australia in 2022. He would have missed the entire IPL if he had gone ahead with surgery, putting his hopes of playing in the T20 World Cup in jeopardy.
As a result, Chahar made the daring decision to continue his rehabilitation without surgery. After that, an 8-week recovery programme was proposed, after which the pacemaker should be accessible for selection.
