Mumbai, April 20: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri says Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Virat Kohli is mentally ‘overcooked’ and needs to take a break from cricket for a while to reflect before returning to the game.
Kohli has been in a slump since stepping down as India captain a few months back, and hasn’t made a century in any format since November 2019. He’s had an equally bad run in the ongoing IPL, scoring 119 runs at an average of 19.83 in seven games.
Kohli, according to Shastri, needs to take a step back and assess the situation before deciding what to do, or his ‘brains will be absolutely fried.’
“I am going straight to the main guy here. Virat Kohli is overcooked. If anyone needs a break, it’s him,” ICC quoted Ravi Shastri as saying after Kohli was dismissed for a first-ball duck in yesterday’s match against Lucknow Super Giants.
With the England tour coming up in less than three months, Shastri says Kohli needs to take a rest if he wants to keep performing.
