Bengaluru, April 11: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowler Avesh Khan was reprimanded for his ‘aggressive behaviour’ when he flung a helmet on the ground, after his team’s stunning last-ball victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Even the captain of the Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis, received a punishment from the IPL Governing Council for the game’s ‘slow over-rate.’ After RCB failed to complete their required number of overs in due time, Du Plessis was assessed a fine of INR 12 lakh.

Avesh, the No. 11 hitter for LSG, threw his helmet after the winning run was completed out of enthusiasm, which earned him a warning from the match referee. LSG won the match by one wicket off the last delivery.

“The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 15 against the Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Monday,” a media release stated.

“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Faf du Plessis was fined Rs 12 lakhs. Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan has been reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct. Avesh admitted to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” it added.

For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding. Avesh was in position to make a stroke, but he was unable to make contact with the ball, which went straight to the wicket-keeper. Behind the stumps, Karthik stumbled, giving Avesh the chance to take a single and give his team the victory.
