Ranchi: JVM Shyamali, the school of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is back in the news, with the institution’s former student Shikhar Mohan selected for the Irani Trophy, as BCCI included him in the 15-member “Rest of India” squad.
Shikhar to Play Alongside Top International Stars
Shikhar will take the field alongside major international players in the Irani Cup, featuring stars such as Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan. Known for his aggressive left-handed batting, Shikhar also troubles top batters with his slow left-arm spin bowling, having showcased his cricketing talent since his school days.
Career Progression from Class 12 to State Captaincy
Shikhar completed his Class 12 education from JVM Shyamali in 2022, after which he was appointed captain of the Jharkhand U-19 team for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy during the 2022-23 season.
Consistent Performances in Domestic Cricket
Shikhar has consistently performed well in domestic cricket, notching several impressive centuries and half-centuries across the Jharkhand Premier League, Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Duleep Trophy.
Principal Draws Comparison to Dhoni’s Spark
Reacting to the selection, JVM Shyamali principal B.N. Jha said Shikhar possesses the same spark that once defined Dhoni, calling it a proud moment for the school.
