BCCI is planning to resume IPL which was suspended mid way in May due to the covid-19. The season is going to resume from Sunday with defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Interestingly for this much awaited Indian Premier League, limited spectators will be allowed. However, only fully vaccinated people are allowed inside the stadium and they also have to prove their vaccination status in order to get entry.
‘Limited seats will be available for the audience, considering the covid situation. From 19 September, matches will be played at the three cities of UAE. These are Dubai, Sharajah and Abu Dhabi’. Event organizers said on Wednesday.
After 2019, this will be the first time when IPL will be played in the presence of audience. Although the exact number of audience is yet not specified but it was announced that the presence would be 50% of the stadium capacity. Last year the matches of the league were played behind closed doors and was suspended due to the covid cases inside the bio-bubble.
BCCI had also prepared a 100 members team this time for covid-19 management .Although the number of matches is less but more focus will be given to covid test, according to the new protocol each player and officials will be tested for corona every third day. In total almost 30 thousand test will be done in this tournament. Since UAE is having a good strike rate for conducting sports events during this pandemic, therefore Oman and UAE is also going to host coming T20 world cup just after the IPL finale on October 15.
