Irate mob lays siege to Sindri plant after worker found dead

Dhanbad Aug 14:  More than 2000 persons on Saturday stormed Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited (HURL) Sindri and stopped the work after a contractual labour was found dead on the factory premises in the morning.

A police officer said the contract worker identified as Ajay Kumar Singh, resident of Sindri Rohrabadh 7 no. quarters was at night duty. His body was found on the campus.

As the report of the body recovery spread relatives of the deceased along with thousands of local people stormed  HURL premises demanding a job for the dependent, compensation, and probe of death in mysterious condition.

The Officer-in-charge of Sindri police station, Sudhir Kumar Singh, who reached the factory immediately to tackle the irate mob, said that police were investigating the death.

“Since the deceased was a local resident thousands of people have gheraoed the factory after taking the body in their possession. “There was no sign of injury on the body. However, only after post mortem, the reason for the death could be ascertained,” Singh said.

Having seen thousands of local people assembling on the premises, officers and workers of the factory fled.

HURL Sindri that has come up in place of FCI Sindri, is a joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Coal India Limited (CIL), Indian  Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)  and Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI). Its annual urea production capacity is 12. 7 MT.
