New Delhi, June 19: The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on a gurdwara in Afghanistan’s capital, which killed one Afghan Sikh and a Taliban fighter, according to the reports. The terror group’s local offshoot announced on its Telegram channel that the attack was in retaliation for insults directed at Prophet Mohammed, an apparent allusion to BJP officials’ remarks.
According to AFP, the attack targeted Hindus and Sikhs, as well as ‘apostates’ who defended them in ‘an act of support for the Messenger of Allah,’ according to a message tweeted by the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province media wing.
Notably, after terrorists entered Gurdwara Karte Parwan in Kabul on Saturday, when roughly 30 community members were inside for morning prayers, smoke billowed over the Sikh temple.
The terrorists attempted to strike the gurdwara with an explosives-laden vehicle, but were halted before they could reach the shrine, according to a spokeswoman for the Taliban’s interior ministry.
