Guwahati: The Hare Krishna Mandir in north Guwahati conducted a peaceful Sankirtan on Sunday, urging for peace and safety for persecuted Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. This initiative is part of a worldwide Sankirtan programme organized by Iskcon to advocate for the protection of vulnerable communities following recent attacks.
Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a prominent devotee leader and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, was recently arrested by Dhaka police. The arrests and alleged violence against Hindus have drawn global attention, with Iskcon temples rallying to express solidarity and seek divine intervention.
Sri Janardhana Dasa, the temple president of Hare Krishna Mandir, said, “We are deeply disturbed by the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. The safety of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, Iskcon devotees, and other minority communities must be ensured. Through this Sankirtan, we express our heartfelt support and pray for their well-being.”
He also urged the Indian government to collaborate with neighboring countries to protect minority rights in the region. “This Sankirtan is a peaceful way to express our solidarity and call for peace. I extend my gratitude to everyone who joined us in seeking the blessings of Sri Radha Krishnachandra for harmony in Bangladesh,” he added.
The event in Guwahati witnessed a gathering of devotees and well-wishers who offered prayers to Lord Krishna. Local organizers emphasized the need to address ongoing threats against Sanatana Dharma followers and protect Hindu temples from targeted attacks.
A release issued by the organizers stated, “The fanatic mob killed many and destroyed properties during these attacks. Such violence has continued for far too long and must stop. This global Sankirtan is a peaceful demonstration of solidarity and support for the Hindu community in Bangladesh.”
It also clarified that the movement is not against Bangladesh or any religious community, but demands safety and equality for all minorities in the region.
