Ranchi, July 25: The Jharkhand State Scheduled Caste Co-operative Development Corporation Limited, Welfare Department, Government of Jharkhand is providing a free-of-cost one-year steward and hotel management course in food production trades at Institute of Science and Management (ISM), Pundag for Class X pass students of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

Explaining the idea, Dr Ganga Prasad Singh, Director, ISM said that the purpose of conducting one-year hotel management course is to educate, train and build a successful future for the hotel, hospitality and tourism industry by training knowledgeable, skillful and behaviourally skilled youth.

When asked of the funding, Dr Singh said, “The government had taken out the tender and we filled our quotes. We had an idea of it as we offered such courses earlier in 2005-09. The requirements provided mentioned that a skill based job oriented one year certificate course be developed under which institutions also offered placements. The funding is now provided by the government for the course.”

ISM President RK Verma said that constant study and humility are necessary for being talented and successful. He informed that the international hotel industry is investing in the country in a big way which will complete 50 percent share in the tourism and hospitality sector in India by the year 2022.

He further added, “India holds a special place in the field of tourism on the world stage. Its climate, natural beauty, history, and geographical features have been attracting the whole world over the years.”

He said that due to the growth rate of India’s tourism at 10 percent during the year 2019-20 and the compound growth rate of 13 percent of the hotel industry by the year 2023, there is immense employment potential in the hospitality industry.

Notably, classroom lectures would be conducted in the first six months. This will be followed by industrial training for three months in five-star reputed hotels. In the last three months, students will learn entrepreneurship skills through special sessions.

The special sessions will be conducted on topics like efficient management, project making etc. After the training, the trainees will be assisted in being employed through self-employment and placements in companies like Hayyat, Taj, Oberoi group, and Lemon Tree among others.
