Bhubaneshwar, July 25: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, stated that despite having chronic health concerns, West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who was detained in connection with an alleged school jobs scam, does not need to be hospitalised.
“We have conducted a thorough screening (of Chatterjee). He has some chronic diseases, but does not need immediate hospitalisation,” AIIMS executive director Ashutosh Biswas told reporters.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Partha Chatterjee, was “greeted” with “chor, chor” cries outside the hospital when he arrived at AIIMS Bhubaneswar early on Monday morning.
On July 24, the Calcutta High Court ordered the Enforcement Directorate, which had just detained Chatterjee in connection with the scam, to fly him to a nearby state medical facility.
The ED has requested 14 days of custody of the Bengal minister and has apprised the court of Chatterjee’s condition.
The Enforcement Directorate detained Partha Chatterjee on Saturday in connection with a purported money laundering case connected to the teacher recruitment fraud. The arrest followed the discovery of Rs 20 crore from his aide Arpita Mukherjee, who was also detained.
The cash found in Mukherjee’s residence was “proceeds of crime,” according to the Enforcement Directorate, which also claims that the minister was in communication with her.
