Itanagar, Nov 19: Prime Minister Modi today officially unveiled the Donyi Polo Airport, Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport and the 600-MW Kameng hydropower station in West Kameng district of the state. Both projects will significantly improve connectivity and tourism.

PM Modi laid the airport’s foundation stone in February 2019. The airport will facilitate travellers and students studying in other states as well as simple transit for investors and in case of medical crises.

The airport, which is named after “Donyi Polo,” a deity worshipped by the state’s indigenous groups, would help the people of Arunachal Pradesh and upper Assam realise a significant dream. It will be Arunachal Pradesh’s third operational airport, bringing the region’s total number of airports in the North-East up to 16.

The Airports Authority of India spent an estimated Rs 645 crore developing the Donyi Polo airport. According to the officials, it would feature eight check-in counters and can hold 200 passengers during rush hour.

The 4,100 square metre Donyi Polo airport will be furnished with all contemporary amenities for travellers. According to the officials, it will include a 2,300 meter-long runway adequate for Boeing 747 takeoffs and landings.

On the other hand, the Kameng hydroproject has been constructed in the West Kameng district over an area measuring more than 80 km, at a cost of more than Rs 8,450 crore. It is anticipated that Arunachal Pradesh would experience a power surplus and that the national grid will gain stability and integration as a result.
According to the officials, it will significantly help the nation fulfil its promise to adopt green energy.
