Jamshedpur, Feb 28: The court of Sessions and District Judge, Anil Kumar Mishra on Tuesday sentenced former assistant Sub-inspector Dharmendra Kumar to life imprisonment in the Varsha Patel murder case.
The court had on February 23 convicted the former ASI on the basis of the evidence and deposition of prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer of the case.
The sentence was pronounced following an argument over the point of the term of the sentence.
While the prosecution had demanded the court to award capital punishment to the convict, the Defense lawyer had pleaded for a lessened punishment, leading the court to give him life imprisonment.
A love triangle between the former ASI Dharmendra Kumar (36) and another youth, Jimmy, with a 25-year-old woman Varsha Patel led to the murder of her on November 12, 2021. Varsha’s body was recovered from a lake under the Telco thana area a week later. The police succeeded to detect the case on the basis of the background information fed by the murder victim’s family members who were well aware of Dharmendra Kumar’s relationship with Varsha.
Dharmendra Kumar who was then posted in the Sakchi thana was already married.
