Jamshedpur, June 5: Third seed in the qualifying draw of Men’s Open Singles, Vashu Gupta of Uttar Pradesh survived a scare at the hands of unseeded Advik Natekar of Maharashtra at the ongoing Tara Steel AITA Men’s National Ranking 1 Lac Prize Money Tennis Tournament 2023, held at the synthetic courts of the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

The tournament which began yesterday was formally inaugurated this morning.

In the final qualifying rounds, it was Advik who seemed to be more in control in the initial few games of the match but eventually, it was the experience of the 3rd-seeded Gupta which did not allow Advik to create yet another upset. Gupta won by a close 7-5, 6-4.

Qualifiers entering into the main draw are Atharva Sharma (Maharashtra), Shourya Manik (Chhattisgarh), Vashu Gupta (Uttar Pradesh), Raj Rishi Keshari (Uttar Pradesh), Sagar Kalyan (Tamil Nadu), Parth Somani (Maharashtra), Suyash Kumar (Uttar Pradesh) and Prosenjit Paul (Jharkhand).

Players from as many as six states including Jharkhand are participating in the national ranking tennis tournament.
