Jamshedpur, July 29: A 37-year-old JMM activist was shot dead by a gang of bike-borne criminals at Kagal Nagar under the Sonari thana area early Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ajay Shah alias Tinku. He was attacked at about 7.30 am when he stopped near a shop after dropping his son at an English medium school.
The murder took place behind the Jojo Pan shop along the C-Road in the posh Kagal Nagar locality.
While the victim was buying pan masala and milk from the shop having parked his car nearby, four youths came there on two bikes and asked Tinku to come behind the shop for talking. As he followed them behind the shop, they instantly rained shots at him from close range.
Tinku was shot three bullets in the head and two in the abdomen and collapsed on the spot. The criminals had subsequently fled the spot easily.
As it was a busy thoroughfare, the information about the shootout spread like a wildfire, leading a police party to reach the spot within 10 minutes.
The police recovered six empty cartridges from the spot while shifting the body to the MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem.
Senior police officers like city SP, K Vijay Shankar and DSP (Headquarters-II) Kamal Kishore too reached the spot soon and inspected the crime scene.
“We are trying to detect those responsible for the murder of Tinku. For the detection of the assailants, we are taking the statement of the shopkeeper and also trying to collect CCTV footage of the area. We hope the case will be solved soon,” said Vijay Shankar while talking to lagatar24.com.
The city SP on being asked said they are yet to establish whether Tinku had any criminal record but it is for certain that he had an association with the criminal elements.
A resident of Khuntadih in Sonari, Tinku had a real estate business and he was also closely associated with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
According to sources, Tinku had enmity with a notorious criminal Manish Prasad who is a resident of Jugsalai.
