Jamshedpur, Oct 3: A 40-year-old man having criminal records was shot dead by bike-borne criminals close to a Puja pandal under the Telco police station area on Monday afternoon.

Identified as Ranjit Singh, the victim was attacked at around 2.30 pm while he was proceeding with his children towards Sabuj Kalyan Sangh Puja Pandal along the Telco Main Road triggering a sensation in the area.

Four youths with their face covered had come riding two bikes having spotted him near the Puja pandal and fired as many as five shots.

While one of the shots missed the target, four bullets hit the victim, causing him to fall. Soon after, he was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital by some local residents. The doctors on emergency duty declared him as “brought dead.”

The murder took place during the grand festivity despite there were policemen present near all the 300 plus Puja pandals and also on the important roads in the city,

Soon after the incident, police reached the spot followed by Telco police station OC, Ajay Kumar.

“The murder victim had a criminal record and this is suspected to be a fallout of old enmity with the attackers. We are trying to identify the attackers by deriving CCTV footage from the murder scene, ” said Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com.

The OC said as the murder took place in a crowded place, the assailants succeeded to flee by taking advantage of the crowd.

A resident of Namda Bustee in Golmuri, Ranjit Singh had come out of jail on bail just 12 days ago after his arrest in a robbery case registered with the Parsudih police station in April 2021.

The murder victim belonged to the Sikh community and was associated with the Amarnath Singh gang.
