Jamshedpur police bust dacoits’ gang; jeweller among 9 arrested

Jamshedpur, March 20: In a major breakthrough, the Jamshedpur police on Monday busted a gang of dacoits by arresting six of them and recovering robbed gold ornaments and cash from them.

Apart from the six robbers, the police have arrested one jeweller and two others for being indirectly associated with the gang.

The most important catch that the police had behind this breakthrough is the arresting of Rahim Khan who is a notorious criminal and was wanted for a long time.

Revealing about the achievement, senior SP, Prabhat Kumar said that past March 14 midnight, a gang of armed robbers had barged into the house of a trader, Chhabi Pusty, at Badiya village under Mosabani thana area of the district.

The criminals had decamped with gold ornaments weighing about 100 grams and about Rs 2.5 lakhs in cash having controlled the trader’s family at gun point.

“After the incident was reported to the police, I set up a special team under the leadership of SP (Rural) Mukesh Lunayat who succeeded to trace the dacoits’ gang by taking technical assistance from the Jamshedpur police headquarters. Eventually, the special team not only succeeded in nabbing six robbers, including the gang leader Rahim Khan, but recovering most of the robbed items and cash, ” said Kumar while addressing a press conference on Monday evening.

The senior SP said that the police team has seized three pistols, 26 rounds of ammunition, knives besides other instruments used in the robbery at Badiya.

The senior police officer said that the police team has recovered Rs 2.15 lakhs, 78.62 grams molten gold and gold ornaments from those arrested.

According to police, Rahim Khan was indulged in more than two dozen cases of robberies, loots, extortion and kidnapping in East Singhbhum district and also in the bordering districts in Odisha and Bengal.
