Jamshedpur, Dec 31: As the New Year is just hours away, the police have made elaborate security arrangements in the steel city to ensure that celebrations of bidding goodbye to 2022 and welcoming 2023 pass peacefully.
With the probable relapse of menacing Covid-19 hovering over the sky and lumpen elements hitting the streets during these delightful occasions, the focus will be on drunk driving.
Organising DJs on streets or any public places has been prohibited and frisking at strategic points across the city has been meticulously arranged.

Revealing the police ‘bandobast’ (arrangements) for the year-end and New Year celebrations, superintendent of police (City) K Vijay Shankar said that they have identified 32 strategic points across the city where checking will be carried out.
“Checking for drunk driving or drunk riding will be in focus. Those found drunk while riding a two-wheeler or drunk-driving a car will be slapped with a penalty of Rs 10,000 and the driving licence will be recommended for cancellation,” said Vijay Shankar while talking to lagatar24.com.
He pointed out rash driving and triple-riding will also be taken care of at the checking points during the period starting from 10 pm today till 4 am on Sunday.
Speaking about the New Year celebrations tomorrow, the senior police officer said that as picnic spots will attract a huge crowd during the occasion, special deployment of police forces has been made there.
“Consumption of liquor is prohibited at the picnic spots in and around the city, and the cops have been instructed to detect those consuming liquor there,” said the officer.
He pointed out that as a large number of women and children are expected to visit picnic spots and other places of attraction, arrangements for lady cops have been made there keeping in view the chances of eve-teasing and chain-snatching incidents in the crowded places.
The city DP said hospital management has also been beefed up so that any cases of medical emergency be taken care of without any fuss.
