Jamshedpur, Oct 19: Sarabjeet Singh Chhabo, the prime accused of the sensational murder of Ranjit Singh in a Durga Puja pandal in Telco has been arrested. Chhabo was absconding since October 3.

A resident of Gurdaspur district in Panjab, Chhabo avenged by conspiring to murder Ranjit Singh as the latter had pulled the beard of the former during a clash between themselves in Ghaghidih Central Jail where they were lodged a year ago.

Revealing the breakthrough, SSP Prabhat Kumar said that Ranjit Singh had humiliated Chhabo by pulling his beard in front of several other fellow prisoners in the central jail during a clash between themselves.

“Chhabo (44) was released from jail earlier and prepared his associates for the murder of Ranjit Singh. After Ranjit Singh was released from jail on September 22, Chhabo launched a gun-shot attack on him near the Sabuj Kalyan Sangh Durga Puja pandal on October 3 afternoon, causing the victim to get fatally injured,” said Kumar while talking to newsmen during a press conference on Wednesday.

Earlier, three persons named Sholey, Anil Singh and Rishi Kumar have already been arrested in connection with the case.

“Of the three, Rishi was injured during his arrest and was undergoing treatment in the MGM medical college hospital under police custody. As Rishi has recovered from the injury, both Chhabo and Rishi are being forwarded to judicial custody,” said the senior police officer.

He pointed out that one more accused is wanted in the case, adding that efforts to arrest him are on.

Ranjit Singh (40) who was also a Sikh like Chhabo was shot dead by four bike-borne criminals, including Chhabo while he was visiting Sabuj Kalyan Sangh Durga Puja pandal along with his daughter for getting ‘Ashtami Puja Bhog’.
