Jamshedpur, Nov 16: Police on Wednesday picked up Tata Motors Workers Union president Gurmeet Singh Tote for allegedly being involved in a firing incident that took place in Birsanagar on November 3.
The police have taken Tote into custody for interrogation a day after arresting one Mangal Singh in the same case which had been registered based on an FIR lodged by the victim Sambhu Das.
Additional SP Sudhanshu Jain confirmed about the detention of Tote in the Birsanagar thana.
“Tote who is an accused in a gun-shot attack case is being interrogated at the Birsanagar thana. The accused’s arrest is subject to the outcome of the interrogation,” said Jain while talking to lagatar24.com.
The additional SP said though the alleged gun-shot attack on Sambhu Das had taken place on November 3, they picked up Tote from his house in Telco early this morning based on information divulged by a co-accused Mangal Singh.
The senior police officer said Mangal Singh was arrested with a loaded country-made pistol which had been used in the gun-shot attack.
Sambhu Das who used to work as a police informer had alleged that two-three persons had launched a gunshot attack on him near his house close to the Birsanagar thana on November 3 afternoon.
Though the police had taken the alleged firing on Sambhu Das with a pinch of salt given the controversial background of the complainant, the additional SP had set up a special team and got the case investigated resulting in the arrest of one of the accused and detention of as ‘prominent’ and influential person as Tote.
