Jamshedpur, May 16: A 40-year-old woman was killed on the spot and her younger brother seriously injured as the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a speeding motorcycle on Straight Mile Road under Bistupur thana area on Tuesday morning.

The mishap was a fallout of a stunt performed by the bike rider who has also sustained grievous injuries and is struggling for his life at the Tata Main Hospital.

Identified as Mali Pramanik, the woman was a resident of Sonari where she would sell vegetables. She was going to Sakchi along with her brother Kirtan Pramanik for buying vegetables when the mishap took place.

A police party rescued the victims and rushed them all to MGM medical college hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared the woman dead and referred Kirtan Pramanik to RIMS.

Later the bike rider was shifted by his family members to Tata Main Hospital for better treatment.

The auto-rickshaw driver, however, managed to escape with a minor injury.

The mishap took place near the Dorabji Tata Park along the Straight Mile Road after the biker had hit the auto-rickshaw riding at breakneck speed. As a result of the mishap, both the auto-rickshaw and the bike (Pulsar 180) have been damaged completely.

The police seized both the vehicles and sent the body to MGM medical college for postmortem having registered a case in connection to the incident.

“The mishap took place due to the fault of the bike rider. He was riding at a breakneck speed, probably performing a stunt near the Dorabji Tata Park, ” said Bistupur thana OC, Vishnu Rawat while talking to lagatar24.com.
