Jamshedpur: Three sentenced to life imprisonment in gang-rape case

Jamshedpur, March 23: The court of additional district judge -I-cum-POCSO court, Seraikela Amit Shekhar on Wednesday sentenced three youths to life imprisonment on finding them guilty in a gang-rape case.

Those who were sentenced to life are Chamru Gagrai, Rajesh Turkey and Dhanman Khalko, all residents of Rajnagar block in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

According to the prosecution, the three had gang-raped a 16-year-old girl who is a resident of East Singhbhum district in June 2021. The victim who is a resident of the Sundernagar area of Jamshedpur had in June first week had fled her home to her grandma’s house in Rajnagar after being scolded by her parents for some mischief.

On the evening of June 7, 2021, the victim had gone to a nearby canal in Rajnagar along with two of her friends. As the three were engrossed in chit-chat along the canal side, three youths arrived there and started to assault the victim’s friends.

On sensing trouble, one of the two fled the scene, leaving the victim and his friend on the spot. The three had subsequently overpowered the remaining youth and dragged the girl to a nearby forest stretch where they raped her one after another.

All the convicts are in the age group of the early twenties and were arrested within the next two days after an FIR was lodged by the victim.
