Jamshedpur to host state badminton championship from August 12

Dhanbad, August 9: Jharkhand state junior and senior badminton championship and selection trial will be held at Mohan Ahuja Badminton Stadium in Jamshedpur from August 12-14.

K Prabhakar Rao, Secretary of Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) said on Tuesday that around 180 shuttlers (Men and Women) will be taking part in the three-day championship/selection trial. More than 225 matches will be held during the three-day event.

“The players who will be selected on the basis of their performances in this tournament will represent Jharkhand in the East Zone Badminton Championship, to be held in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh from  September 6 to 10,” said Rao.

Rao, who is also the joint secretary of the All India Badminton Federation, said that in the three-day championship, men singles, doubles and mixed doubles and women singles, doubles and mixed doubles, under-19  girls singles, doubles and mixed double, under-19 boys singles, doubles and mixed doubles events will be played.

“The championship is open for all the registered players but one player can participate only in three events,” he said.

The winner and runners-up of the singles event and winner of the doubles and mixed doubles will be selected for the state team to participate in East Zone Badminton Championship.

K Prabhakar Rao, who is also the chairman of the National Para-Badminton Association of India, recently held a lengthy meeting with All India Badminton Federation president Himanta Biswa Sarma and said that he would announce a development programme for state junior and senior players soon.
