Jamshedpur, May 27: Statistics from the meteorological department reveal that Jharkhand received an average rainfall of around 50 mm between March and May so far, this year.

Kolhan topped the rain-o-meter, with Jamshedpur alone experiencing 197.4mm during these three months.

Like Jamshedpur, Chaibasa in adjoining West Singhbhum too soaked a good spell of rainfall, the March-May total being 65mm.

The state had clocked an average of around 50mm in March-May, 2022, revealed data.

The bounty in May has come from the frequent Nor’wester activity.

Besides Ranchi and East Singhbhum, many other places like Ranchi, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Simdega and Giridih have also recorded above-average rainfall in pre-monsoon 2022.

According to a senior Met department official, the depression over the Bay earlier this month was the biggest boon because it resulted in widespread rainfall.

Data revealed that most places across Jharkhand failed to get rain in March and April, the first two monsoon months. Nor’westers in the state became active only in May.

According to a forecast issued by IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre this afternoon light to moderate thunderstorm and rainfall activity was expected in isolated pockets of the state in the next three to four days.
