Jamshedpur: Two convicted in transporter Upender Singh murder case

Jamshedpur, Aug 5: The court of first additional district judge on Saturday convicted two of the seven accused in the Upender Singh murder case registered with the Sitaramdera police station on November 30, 2016.

The convicted are Sonu Singh alias Vicky and Vinod Singh alias Mogli, both shooters and those acquitted are gangster Akhilesh Singh, Sanjay Jojo, Ajay Yadav, Pankaj Singh and Avinash Shrivastav.

There were in all 26 prosecution witnesses in the case. The court will pronounce the term of punishment after a hearing on August 14.

54-year-old Upender Singh, a transporter, was shot dead on the second floor of the Jamshedpur Bar Association building under Sitaramdera police station area on November 30, 2016 afternoon.

Two men had fired at the transporter from close range while he was busy in discussion with his advocate at the bar association building.

Soon after the shooting, the fellow advocates had Overpowered the shooters who were later identified as Vicky and Mogli.

Vicky and Mogli were allegedly working for the gangster Akhilesh Singh, but the murder was executed allegedly at the instruction of Harish Singh, a close associate of the gangster presently lodged in Dumka central jail.

Harish Singh who is still absconding was allegedly monitoring the act of the shooters by remaining present at the murder scene and was conveying the message to the gangster over the cellphone.

Significantly, the court has already awarded three years RI to Vicky and Mogli in connection with a case under Arms Act pertaining to murder of Upender Singh.
