Ranchi, May 17: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jharkhand today arrested state drinking water and sanitation department executive engineer Sanjay Kumar posted in Dumka from the Jharkhand capital.
The arrest was done from his residence at Basant Vihar Colony under the Argora police station area, where he had come today.
The action was taken for his act and omissions done in Dhanbad during the year 2011 to 2014. It is being alleged that in the Govindpur panchayat under and Nirsa block of Dhanbad, tube wells dug in the financial years 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 were tested by the Technical Examiner Cell. During the investigation, it was found that an amount of more than two crores had been embezzled.
It was also found that work under the different schemes of the drinking water and sanitation department was not done at many places but with the connivance of the engineers, the amount was paid to the contractors after preparing the measurement book and preparing the file bill without getting the work done.
When the role of the said people came to the fore in the investigation, the ACB had sought permission from the department to lodge an FIR against the concerned people. The ACB has taken this action after getting permission from the Cabinet Monitoring Department. The ACB had registered an FIR against 29 people in the tube well scam. The names include 11 engineers and 18 contractors.
