Ranchi, Jan 25: Jharkhand archer Savita Kumari is among the 29 children of India that have been awarded the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2022.
They have been conferred this award for their exceptional work and exemplary courage.
Savita Kumari, selected from Jharkhand in the field of sports for the Prime Minister’s Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, was honoured by District Social Welfare Officer Shatrujay Kumar and DIO Shivcharan Banerjee on behalf of the district administration.
Daughter of Akshay Prasad and Kiran Devi of Sonahatu block of Ranchi, Savita participated in the archery competition for the first time in 2014 while studying in Kasturba Gandhi Residential School.
In 2018-19, Savita was selected in the Khelo India scheme. In the first Khelo India School Games Archery Championship 2018-19 in New Delhi, Savita got the fourth rank.
Savita was also a part of the team that won the bronze in the 63rd School National Archery Championship held in Chhattisgarh in the year 2017-18.
Savita won the team gold in the Mini Sub Junior Archery Championship held in Andhra Pradesh in 2018-19. Savita was part of the team that won gold at the 2018–19 South Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
This year, 29 children across the country have been selected for the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar Award under various categories. Each awardee of PMRBP is presented with a medal, a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a certificate.
The Prime Minister’s Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is a recognition of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement in six areas such as innovation, academic achievement, sports, art and culture, social service and bravery to children living in India above the age of 5 years and up to 18 years of age.
