Ranchi: The Jharkhand Assembly’s budget session is set to commence on February 24, with the opposition gearing up to corner the ruling party on key issues such as the JPSC chairman’s appointment, paper leaks, and other governance concerns. Ahead of the session, the opposition will hold a meeting on February 23 to strategize its approach against the government.
Leader of Opposition Yet to be Selected
Despite the upcoming session, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) is yet to be appointed. Adding to the political tension, the BJP boycotted the all-party meeting called by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato, and its NDA ally, AJSU, also distanced itself from the discussion.
Following the all-party meeting, Speaker Mahato remarked that the absence of a Leader of Opposition hampers the smooth functioning of the Assembly.
Extended Debate on Budget Discussions
A key consensus reached in the all-party meeting was extending the budget debate to two days instead of one, ensuring a more in-depth discussion. Additionally, the debate on grant demands will now last 10 days instead of 11.
The Jharkhand government will present the state budget on March 3, 2025, followed by discussions on March 4 and 5.
RJD Legislative Meeting on Sunday
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislative wing has also scheduled a meeting on Sunday at the party’s state office. The session will be chaired by RJD Legislature Party leader Suresh Paswan.
With mounting political tensions, all eyes are now on how the opposition plans to challenge the government during the budget session.
