Ranchi, March 24: The Jharkhand Assembly today passed “Consequent Preference of Government Servants Promoted on the Basis of Reservation Bill 2022”  amidst heavy protest from the opposition.

After the bill was passed, the BJP MLAs raised slogans, “OBC virodhi sarkar hi hi.” They also trooped to the well and made every effort to stop the bill from being passed from the house. They were of the opinion that the bill will not give equal opportunity to all and the most affected will be the OBCs.

Though parliamentary affairs minister Alamgir Alam said that the state government is not at fault for the same as there is no provision of reservation in promotion for OBCs but the opposition continued protest disturbing the proceedings of the house.

On 25 February 2022, the Cabinet had approved the Bill for the promotion of government servants on the basis of reservation. The bill entitles resultant preference to the government servants belonging to ST and SC community promoted on the basis of reservation.

The bill determines seniority in the promoted grade on the basis of length of service irrespective of the category.
