Ranchi, March 4: Bird flu has been confirmed in the Jharkhand capital. The development took place after more than half a dozen chickens died in the residential complex of Union Minister Arjun Munda near Jail Chowk and when samples were sent for laboratory tests.

Following confirmation, the animal husbandry director instructed to survey the poultry farms located within a km radius of Jail Chowk. Apart from this all the chickens coming into this radius will be killed.

Direction has also been given to keep surveillance in the 10 km periphery of Jail Chowk. Daily Market, Lalpur Bazar and Ranchi Lake all come within the periphery.

The demand for meat and fish increases during Holi. Thus keeping this in view, the animal husbandry directorate has beefed up surveillance on the district border.

A meeting under the chairmanship of Ranchi DC is also expected to plan preventive and curative measures.

Earlier, cases of Bird Flu were detected in Bokaro.
