Ranchi, Dec.29: On the completion of two years of governance, the Hemant Soren government today announced Rs 25 per litre subsidy on petrol for poor families using motorcycle and scooter.

The CM’s office tweeted the announcement saying the maximum limit for getting petrol is up to 10 litres every month and the subsidy amount will be transferred in the account of the beneficiary having ration card. According to the tweet, the subsidy will be given from January 26.

In justification to this subsidy, it said that the price of petrol and diesel is skyrocketing and it has badly affected the poor and middle class families. A poor man, the CM said, cannot use a bike despite having the same for not having money to purchase petrol and cannot go to market to sell crops.

The tweet came a few minutes after the chief minister  at Morhabadi ground announced the subsidy in an official function and justified it saying in rural areas people mix kerosene with petrol and damage their vehicles. He, on the occasion, said car owners can manage but for the poor, labourer and middle class arranging petrol has become a challenge.

Earlier, Soren announced  credit card scheme for students saying it was required as banks are reluctant to give loans to ST,SC and BC. He while declaring the scheme said that very soon he is going to take initiative to ensure that banks do not show reluctance in providing loans to SC, ST and BC and for that he expressed his commitment to go to any extent.

Expressing his commitment for the poor and needy, Soren on the occasion claimed that Jharkhand is the first state to have given compensation to the family who lost bread earners during the corona pandemic.
