Jamshedpur, Dec 29: A western disturbance passing through northern parts of the country resulted in widespread and heavy rain across Jharkhand since last evening.
On Wednesday most places woke up to overcast and inclement weather conditions. Several places experienced intermittent rains accompanied by wind blowing at a speed of 20 Kmph.
Weather data revealed that light to moderate rain occurred at most places while several places experienced heavy showers.
Chas in Bokaro witnessed the highest rainfall of 76.3 mm recorded between 5.30 pm of Tuesday and 8.30 am of Wednesday. Koner in Hazaribagh district too experienced heavy rainfall of 56 mm while Ramgarh experienced around 50 mm of rain.
Several places in Dhanbad including Putki recorded over 30 mm of rain while Simdega and Jamshedpur recorded around 28 mm of rain. Hazaribagh and Daltonganj recorded 28 mm of rain while Chaibasa, Chakradharpur ( West Singhbhum ), Chandil ( Seraikela- Kharsawan) and Ghatshila ( East Singhbhum ) recorded around 25 mm of rain.
Ranchi recorded around 20 mm of rain. Met data revealed that over 15 IMD observatories across the state recorded rainfall between 10 and 15 mm. Deoghar and several other places in the Santhal Pargana region recorded around 5 mm of rain.
” The rain was caused by a western disturbance passing through higher latitudes coupled with an associated cyclonic circulation over central parts of Uttar Pradesh which today lay over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining
Bihar extending upto 2.1 Km above mean sea level, ” said a duty officer at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
The Ranchi Met Centre this afternoon issued a forecast of generally cloudy sky with light rain at several places during the next 24 hours.
The cloud cover and unseasonal showers resulted in an abrupt rise in minimum temperatures across the state.
The minimum temperature was hovering between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius in most places.
As per forecast, the minimum temperature is again likely to witness an abrupt fall from Friday. This will bring back the chill and crisp weather.
The Met centre also issued an alert of heavy fog in most parts of Jharkhand during the next 48 hours.
