Jamshedpur, Feb 21: Several colleges under Kolhan University ( KU ) has been issued directives for the proposed visit of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team in Jamshedpur.

Sources in KU said that a NAAC team is expected to visit Jamshedpur Co-operative College, one of the leading colleges under Kolhan University sometime in April this year.

Notably, the university has sanctioned Rs 49 lakh to the college ahead of the NAAC team visit.

The fund was sanctioned for necessary infrastructure development at the college

“We will take necessary measures for improving the NAAC grade. The college administration is preparing a self-study report required for NAAC assessment,” said an official of Jamshedpur Co-operative College.

He said the self-study report would be uploaded to the NAAC  site before the team’s visit.

In the last assessment, the college got a B grade.

Education department sources said the NAAC team will visit other colleges and asses the educational activities and infrastructure on the campus.

Apart from this, the team will also interact with the alumni and students of various colleges. Several colleges in the city are organizing different seminars and other programs to keep themselves updated.

If the NAAC team is satisfied after the inspection colleges might receive funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC) every year.

Sources said in the last week of January this year the NAAC team visited Kolhan University for evaluation purposes. The NAAC team performed an evaluation for 279 marks based on its findings on a number of criteria.

The NAAC team will also inspect Lal Bahadur Shashtri Memorial (LBSM) College at Karandih on the outskirts of Steel City.

The constituent college of Kolhan University which majorly accommodates tribal students from the nearby areas has submitted its Letter of Intention (LoI) to NAAC.

LBSM College is the fourth college after Jamshedpur Co-operative College, Jamshedpur Workers’ College and Graduate School College for Women which has NAAC accreditation.
