Jharkhand doctor bags prestigious DHEERA national award

Ranchi, Sept 15: Dr Santavaa Sharan of Ramgarh district has been selected by the Federation of Obstetrics and  Gynaecological Society of India (FOGSI) for the prestigious DHEERA national award 2022.

FOGSI national president Dr S Shantha Kumari has in this regard issued a notification saying that Dr Shantavana Sharan of Jharkhand has been selected for this prestigious national award for her service and commitment to making the world safer and better for women.

The award would be given to Dr Sharan tomorrow (September 16) at Hotel Sofitel in Mumbai.

DHEERA Award is being given to recognize persons who have contributed significantly to improving women’s health and have a nationwide reach and impact.

DHEERA reached over 5 lakh boys and girls between 9th and 12th classes of public and private schools, 20,000 teachers and 38,000 FOGSI members during the campaign.

Dr Santavana Sharan of Ramgarh has already received several national awards for successfully implementing the Mission Pink Health programme of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) national body.

“Violence against women is a violation of basic human rights, dignity and the right to life of women. FOGSI in partnership with UNICEF on December 16, 2021, had launched DHEERA online certification course to address cause and risk factors related to violence against women and also provide a sensitization programme to orient and train boys and girls, teachers and FOGSI members to prevent violence against women,” said FOGSI president in her letter to Dr Santavana Sharan of Jharkhand.
